Estas son las fotografías ganadoras del certamen internacional 2019 Bird Photographer of the Year

El año pasado ya os mostramos los ganadores del Bird Photographer of the Year, el que podría ser el concurso más prestigioso especializado en aves, una disciplina que suele estar incluida como categoría en otros certámenes de animales y/o vida salvaje pero que aquí cobra entidad propia para celebrar su belleza y diversidad.

Se trata de la cuarta edición de esta competición británica que destina sus beneficios a ayudar a la concienciación y la conservación de las distintas especies de pájaros a través de diversos proyectos benéficos. Por ello, no es de extrañar que desde la organización se feliciten por haber logrado aumentar la participación con entradas de 63 países (la anterior fueron 60) y 13.500 imágenes participantes (el año pasado no dieron datos, aunque ahora dicen que fueron la mitad).

Todo ello para conformar una competición con siete categorías y cuatro premios especiales: ‘Bird Photographer of the Year’, ‘Young Bird Photographer of the Year’ y ‘Best Portfolio' (ya presentes el año pasado), al que este año se ha añadido la categoría ‘Inspirational Encounters’. En ella se premiaba una foto acompañada de un texto narrando un encuentro inspirador con aves que demuestre lo positivo que tiene el impacto del mundo aviar en las personas y su potencial para inspirarnos.

Este premio, dotado con 1.500 libras, se lo llevó británico Martin Grace, del Reino Unido por una fotografía que muestra a pingüinos emperador en la Antártida. Claro que el “gordo” (cinco mil libras) fue para la también británica Caron Steele por la foto ‘Dancing on Ice’ que os hemos puesto en portada y que, además de vencer en la categoría ‘Best Portrait’ fue elegida como vencedora absoluta y, por tanto, como la “Mejor fotógrafa de aves de 2019.”

La imagen muestra a un extravagante pelícano dálmata andando sobre una capa de hielo en el lago Kerkini (Grecia), una buena muestra de “oportunidad fotográfica aprovechada al máximo”, según el jurado, ya que este lago rara vez se congela. Una imagen que califican como “realmente encantadora en su perfección” y que dicen hizo levantar de la silla al miembro principal del jurado cuando la vio aparecer en su pantalla.

Por lo que se refiere al galardón Young Bird Photographer of the Year 2019, que premia al mejor fotógrafo joven, el vencedor fue el húngaro Tamás Koncz-Bisztricz por su uso innovador de un dron para capturar una colorida imagen de patos silvestres. Por su parte, el ganador al mejor portfolio fue el alemán Thomas Hinsche por su serie de seis imágenes que, según los jueces, demuestran persistencia, habilidad y talento fotográfico.

En cuanto a la participación nacional, no hay ningún español entre los ganadores principales pero sí entre las menciones honorables y las fotos recomendadas, donde podemos encontrar a Arturo de Frias y Mario Suárez Porras, a quien tuvimos oportunidad de entrevistar el año pasado después de haber ganado tres premios en tres categorías distintas de este mismo concurso.
